Scott and I got married at Sorn Castle on 1st October 2016, one year after getting engaged. We “fell in love” with the Castle as soon as we caught our first glimpse of it after driving through the magnificent entrance and down the private drive under the autumnal shaded trees. Our review is quite lengthy, but we had the most amazing day, so it is only fair that we let you know about it. If you don’t have time to read it all, just do one thing…go and visit the Castle, Frances and Martyn. They will give you the wedding that you want. You won’t feel like you’re “just another wedding at a commercially driven venue”. You get a personalised, professional and friendly service that Sorn Castle should be immensely proud of.

Throughout that year there was plenty of planning, changing minds and more planning. Both Frances and Martyn were there to help us all of the way; they tolerated our indecisiveness and made everything that we wanted come to fruition – no request was too small, and they know what will work well in the Castle.

We decided to make full use of the Castle for the entire weekend, occupying all 12 bedrooms, which are beautifully and carefully decorated to reflect the unique characteristics and periods of build of Sorn Castle throughout the centuries. On the Friday we were served afternoon tea and cakes in the inner-hall, which were all home-made. Our guests made the most of the stunning venue and grounds before we were all served a tasty curry for dinner in the cosy dining room. The open fires added that extra special feeling.

Our wedding started at 3pm on the Saturday, which gave plenty of time for the florist (an excellent recommend by Martyn) to create her masterpiece in the hall way and add some other subtle flowers in the music room and drawing room. We didn’t really see the Castle Staff setting up for the wedding – they obviously all worked very hard, but their professional approach meant that this all happened in the background, allowing all of the guest who stayed at the Castle to have a relaxing morning, whilst they read papers in the Library and walked the grounds along the river. Our only concern was making sure that we were dressed in time (we were!). Martyn and Frances took care of the entire day, and delivered the perfect and faultless wedding. The wedding breakfast was superb – something that deserves a special mention considering the fact we gave our guests two option for each course and nobody was left waiting for their food. Each of the 7 tables were served quickly and the Chefs were also very accommodating of special dietary requirements.

We were all treated to a full Scottish breakfast in the dining room on the Saturday and Sunday. It was just what we needed after the celebrations on the nights before.

It’s fair to say that Sorn Castle is a treasure sat within the heart of Ayrshire, which is made even more special by the dedication that Frances and Martyn put into everything they do. It’s easy for us to keep on writing, as we did have the most memorable wedding weekend at the Castle. We would hate for you to miss out on this venue.

We had our wedding at Sorn Castle on 13th August 2016. The venue is stunning and takes your breath away. The staff are just amazing and go beyond the call of duty. The service they provide is outstanding. Thank you Martyn & Frances you will always have a special place in my heart. Your warmth, friendship and support made our day so special. Our guests have all had such positive things to say and loved our wedding day as much as we did.  Thank you all at Sorn Castle.

We had our wedding at Sorn Castle in September 2016.  We had the most fantastic day.  Every one of our guests has commented on the levels of service on the day, the quality of the food and how relaxed Martyn and Frances make the day feel.

Our day ran completely on time, mostly down to Martyn who very much in the background kept everything moving, making sure he got everyone outside for the crucial group photo, making sure we were ready to greet our guests as they entered the marquee, ensuring that the meal ran to time and we had had our speeches finished by the time our evening guests arrived and we were then ready to get on with partying.  Prior to the wedding I worried that we would run late but I needn’t have worried I’ve never been to a wedding where it all ran so efficiently.

I would say that one of the nicest things about having your wedding at Sorn Castle is the feeling that you are not just a number, it has such a personal feel.

We couldn’t be happier with our day and the very fact that we were able to get married in a 14th Century castle really still amazes me!
